O6 Planning for valorization and sustainability

The aim of this Outcome is to ensure sustainability of the project in every partner country, not just the two target countries. In the first activity the project will produce a digital textbook for all agricultural teachers, and based on the content developed during the project. It will be in three languages - EN, HU and MK.

Once tested and reviewed, the learning content will be published in the form of digital textbook (under a Creative Common Licence) freely available for teachers and students alike. The derived language versions will be localised to comply with the particular characteristics within target countries.

Within O6 the partnership will elaborate a copyright agreement and every partner will summarize significant experiences and benefits gained during the work of the project. Each partner will elaborate their particular plans for the sustainability of the work of the project beyond the projected finishing date.

O5 AgriTeach 4.0 further training program for VET teachers

Teacher training will initially be in the form of blended learning to introduce concepts and to orient the participants. This will be followed by a phase of online learning guided by tutors in both the target countries
The pilot will initially start in Hungary, followed one month later in Macedonia. This will ensure that any early issues are trapped quickly.
Teacher recruitment will start with the operation of the survey. This will also be used to invite teachers and advisors involved in the survey to participate in the course.

The course will be delivered via a networked learning methodology. In practice this means that tutors will be asked to facilitate online communications and collaborations of the participants, and to inspire them to participate in knowledge sharing. This methodology is quite different from that of typical MOOCs, where participants often learn alone at their own pace. Participants in this course will work as an organised cohort, with release and study of learning content controlled over the length of the pilot.

The pilot will start with a contact day in both countries, in order to provide the basic skills of working, navigating, and learning on the platform, but also to learn about each other. The aim is to quickly establish an effective learning community.

We will contemporary and innovative pedagogical methods - including project/based learning and the flipped classroom model - in order to provide an opportunity for the participants to try out the methods that they will learn about during the course. The design of the courses will ensure the integration of specific tasks with challenging questions into the lessons, with the aim of inspiring and motivating the participants to actively join in with the discussion forums.

Following this initial phase there will be an online study period, during which participants will be guided by the tutors. Finally, to close the course, there will be another contact day at which all participants will have the opportunity to discuss any problems, to put questions to the tutors and organisers, and to share plans for the future.

O4 AgriTeach 4.0 Learning Management System

In this working phase the project will implement an e-learning system, based on the open source Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) software. This will incorporate the functionalities of learning and content management. The planned topic-oriented course structure will built along a well-planned time-line. The course will be highly structured, It not just a store of online learning contents, where the participants are left alone (to learn in their own pace). The educational partners will develop a carefully guided learning structure, involving the support of a tutor to facilitate the learning process, and to look for the need for intervention.

This development will respect the fact that the environment and its content is not about technology, but about support for effective learning. All technological components of the course, as well as the actual course components themselves, will be determined and driven by specific pedagogical aims. These will include: motivating; involvement in collaboration; knowledge sharing; online communication; facilitating participant activities. These are the primary requirements of the learning environment.

The course will be developed around Learning Objectives, that meet the needs of the Learning Outcomes, and these will be supported by functional activities such as self-assessment tools, blogs, forums, glossary, games, video tutorials, and e-portfolios.

The e-learning training materials are produced in the open source Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) framework. learning materials are available in 3 languages (HU, MK, EN) on this interface.

The completion of the individual modules is progressing at the pace of the pilot training, and the learning process is facilitated by tutors. The course contains the following elements:

O3 Syllabus and learning content for AgriTeach 4.0

Based on the results of the needs-analysis the consortium will elaborate a syllabus and learning content. The authoring and review of all content will be established a strong collaboration of the partnership. The results are fundamentally defining the quality and success of the project results.

During the proposal writing phase we prepared a preliminary plan for the modules and estimated the size of the contents, however this plan can be modified according to the results of the needs-analysis.

We agreed that we will avoid authoring the “100^th “ version of a topic, if we find relevant and good quality open educational resources (OERs), we will reuse it. There is only one problem foreseen regarding the OERs: it is the language. The best resources (tutorials, videos) are published on the Internet in English. However, in the field of ICT, there is no chance to keep pace with the evolution without at least good reading skills for the professional content, even in the agricultural sector. This is the reason while we intend to include a block into the learning content about ICT tools for rapid development of English language skills, which supports the processing even video tutorials, if it is published with English subscriptions.

All newly created contents will be authored and reviewed in English, and translated into the national languages of the target countries, and the translation will be reviewed again.

O2 Training needs of Teachers preparing students for Agriculture 4.0

Intellectual Outcome 2 provides detailed information about the supply side, i.e. how vocational education must meet the needs of demands for existing and future Agriculture 4.0 skills. The results of the survey provides directly usable information for the educational system itself, but its conclusions forms a very important input for follow-on working phases, including the development of the training.

The aim was to get answers on the questions as follows:

How aware are agricultural VET teachers of trends in Farming 4/Agriculture 4.0?
How prepared are the teachers to develop their students for joining 'connected agriculture?
Do they have a sufficiently strong ICT background in precision farming and ICT based systems?

In detailed, preliminary consultations with the partners (who represent industrial and educational parties), the starting project assumption (the H0 hypothesis) was that there is a significant requirement for the provision of ICT training in these fields, but that this hypothesis has to be confirmed through surveys of the target groups in the target countries.

O1 e-Competence Map of Agricultural workers for Agriculture 4.0

Intellectual Outcome 1 aimed to build a general state-of-art overview about the ICT uptake of agricultural companies in Macedonia and in Hungary, the present level of Agriculture 4.0 relative to the EU trend, and about the offer and demand in the agricultural workforce with special focus on the digital competences of the workers.

An extensive analysis of the state of the art in use of ICT in agriculture and precision farming was conducted im each target country as well as on the level of EU. These analyses serve as a baseline for following parts of the project. Additionally, a survey was devised to get relevant information directly at the source – from local farmers and representatives of agricultural enterprises.

A survey was conducted among farmers from target countries. Apart from getting basic background information about the respondents (type of farm, size, number of employees etc.), the main goal was to ascertain the level of knowledge about ICT tools and precision farming methods among the farmers and its level of utilization. In Hungary, 64 representatives of agricultural enterprises took part in the survey, while in Macedonia it was only 11 respondents.

Background

The results of the first part of the survey shown that the selected participants were representative to the overall structure of agriculture in a given country (in terms of size of arable land, number of employees etc.)

Knowledge of ICT

Both Hungary and Macedonia have shown good results in terms of overall awareness about ICT, with Hungary having higher percentage of users replying that they are actively utilizing ICT in their business. However in both countries the majority of users feel that they do not utilize ICT to its fullest potential.

Precision agriculture

In this area, the two target countries differ the most. While in Hungary, decent number of respondents answered, that they are already utilizing at least some of the precision farming methods (and those who did not were at least aware of them), in Macedonia the results is this section were recognizably worse. While the amount of users that are familiar with precision farming was decent (even though lower than in Hungary), the number of companies currently actively utilizing precision agriculture was very low.
